Lenovo ThinkCentre M78 Desktop is All Business

Aimed at medium to large businesses, the ThinkCentre M78 comes packing AMD A-Series Accelerated Processing Units APUs rather than Intel Ivy Bridge chips. The decision to build around AMDs APU platform should save businesses a bit money in upfront costs, though Lenovo touts other reasons.

“Professionals in medium to large businesses need dependable, productive and secure desktops to meet the day-to-day rigors of workplace demands,” said Su Lijun, executive director, global desktop marketing, Lenovo. “We built the ThinkCentre M78 to last, equipping it with great performance, security and energy-saving features in one device.”

Google’s new Chrome OS is like a hybrid between Windows and OS X

The master plan for Chrome OS was to move everybody into the cloud — away from file systems and desktops — and towards the Web browser as the operating system. Having failed to build much momentum, Google’s giving the OS a more traditional desktop experience — one that takes cues from Windows and OS X.

Google Operating System reports that the latest developer channel release of Chrome OS brings a “desktop, taskbar, apps on the desktop, wallpapers and overlapping windows” to the We browser-based Chrome OS.

Dubbed “Aura,” the new interface is a “hardware-accelerated user interface framework that offers rich visuals, large-scale animated transitions and effects.” It’s available for Samsung and Acer Chromebooks, but not Google’s own Cr-48 genericbook.

Hard drives are getting bigger and faster every year, but they’re just barely keeping pace with the rate at which our data are expanding. A new service called Bitcasa wants to be the last hard drive you ever need, by offering seamless and infinite (infinite!) cloud-based storage for all of your data.

Bitcasa is a simple concept: a little piece of software lives on your computer and creates a virtual drive by connecting to Bitcasa’s servers. Every time you save something to that drive, it goes off to live in the cloud, and you never run out of drive space. Bitcasa will figure out what files you use most often and keep them local for fast access, but in general, you’re simply not storing any data on your computer.
